When Alan Bester played goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs, there was a saying in Toronto, that his play was so bad he tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a bus, but the bus went through his legs. The Leafs have had some all star goalies play for them over the seasons in the NHL. But they have gone through the seventies and eighties with their share of average goal tending. Its a tough job playing goal, and playing it well in a market such as Toronto`s, that puts high expectations on its players and goalies. Toronto Maple Leaf fans want to see the players and goalies come to the rink, show up and give a solid effort, do that and the fans will cheer you and forgive you. Mike Palmateer, Curtis Joseph, Felix Potvin, and Ed Belfour, are the lone net minders since the early 1970`s to cheer for. |
