The City Of Toronto has its roots embedded deep into the game of hockey, going back as far as the Toronto Blue Shirts of the National Hockey Association, who won the Stanley Cup in 1914.
When the NHL was born in 1917 the Toronto Arenas were one of the first Franchises awarded to the new league. The Arenas became the first team of the newly created NHL to win the Stanley Cup in 1918.
The Toronto Arenas changed their name to the Toronto St.Patricks and won the Stanley Cup in 1922. The Toronto Maple Leafs were born in 1926-27 the name changed from the Toronto St.Patricks. The Maple Leafs won their first Stanley Cup in 1932.
The first Memorial Cup created to be awarded to Amateur Canadian Junior Hockey was won by the Toronto Canoe Club in 1919-20.
