He wore #9 playing centre for the Toronto Maple Leafs.Kennedy played 14 seasons with Toronto from 1943 to 1954-55 retiring and then coming out of retirement to play from Jan. 1957 until Mar. of 1957 retiring once again.
During Kennedy`s playing career with Toronto he helped his team win 5 Stanley Cups, in 1945,1947,1948,1949, and 1951. He captained his team from 1948-55. In 1954-55 Kennedy won the Hart Trophy. Fondly known in the Leaf organization and around hockey circles as Teeder Kennedy.Kennedy was an excellent face off man and good at passing, these skills made up for his lack of skating ability. He moved the puck smartly.
In the 1945 Stanley Cup final series with Detroit, in a game 4 loss of 5-3, Ted Kennedy at 19 years old had all 3 goals for the hat trick. Toronto went on to win the series and the Cup in 7 games.
In the 1947 Stanley Cup final series with Montreal Canadians, Kennedy scored 3 goals in the series and had the winning goal in game 6 to win the Stanley Cup.
In the 1948 Stanley Cup semi finals the Leafs beat the Boston Bruins 4 games to 1, Kennedy scored 4 goals in game 2 a 5-3 win. He also scored the series winner to advance his team to the finals against Detroit. The Leafs beat Detroit to win the Cup 4 games straight, Kennedy led the Leafs with 8 goals and 6 assists.
In the final playoff series against Montreal in 1951, the Leafs won the Stanley Cup 4 games to 1, all 5 games went into overtime, Kennedy scored the winner in the 3rd game.
On 5 separate occasions Kennedy scored hat tricks during his career playing in Toronto, in one of those games Dec. 1944, he scored 3 goals and 3 assists.
