Rick Vaive was born 1959 in Ottawa Ontario.He wore #22 playing right wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Vaive played 8 seasons with Toronto from 1980 to 1986-87.
Vaive at 6`180 lb. wouldn`t back down from a fight, a gritty player who racked up 229 penalty minutes in 1980-81 and 157 minutes in 1981-82. Vaive had a heavy hard shot playing winger to Bill Derlago, together they fed off each others passes and plays.
Vaive had three seasons in a row were he scored more than 50 goals, in 1981-82 he scored 54 goals and 35 assists, in 1982-83 he scored 51 goals and 28 assists and in 1983-84 he had 52 goals and 41 assists, this was a Leaf franchise record to be the first Leaf to score 50 or more goals in one season and he did it three times.
Vaive captained the Leafs from 1981 to 1986. He is the fifth player for career goals as a maple leaf with 299. For 8 seasons in Toronto Vaive helped his team get into the post season five times.
