Ed Shack the entertainer the fans in Toronto loved Eddie. Even though Shack would not play many minutes in a game or score many goals, Shack knew his roll with the Leafs was to spark his team to play better, and keep the other team from banging up his teams goal scorers. Shack gave the Leafs an abundance of toughness and character. If it took a fight or a heavy hit to get his team going Shack was the first one there.
When Shack and Gordie Howe who played for Detroit met on the ice, they would exchange thundering hits to one another so Howe and Shack created a pact with each other to go easy on the hits.
In the 9 seasons with Toronto Shack helped his team win 4 Stanley Cups in 1962,1963,1964, and 1967. In the Stanley Cup game in 1963 Shack scored the winning goal.
Shack was traded to Boston for the 1967-68 season, moving around to different teams, Shack ended up back in Toronto from Pittsburgh for the 1973-74 season, and only 26 games played with the Leafs in the 1974-75 season, Shack retired from the game at the end of that 1975 season.
