Toronto Maple Leaf Player
Dave (Tiger) Williams

Dave Williams was born 1954 in Weyburn Saskatchewan. He wore #22 playing left wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Williams played 6 seasons with Toronto from 1974-75 to 1979-80.

When Williams was drafted by Toronto in 1974, he joined the Leafs to add toughness especially against the Philadelphia Flyers who were known at the time as the dominate Broad street bullies. An enforcer for the Leafs, Williams had 338 penalty minutes in 1976-77 and 298 penalty minutes in 1978-79 both seasons he led the league.

Williams holds the regular season penalty minutes record with Toronto at 1,670 and the playoff penalty minute record at 240.

Even though Williams spent a lot of time in the penalty box placing his team at a disadvantage, he was still a fan favorite for never backing down from a fight and being the first player to stick up for his teammates, win or lose Tiger would be there. The owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the time Williams played, was Harold Ballard he liked Williams and Ballard`s side kick King Clancy loved the way Williams played. Hockey games and fights went together, in Clancy`s day the 1930`s Clancy`s defence partner when he played for the Leafs was tough guy Red Horner.

Williams holds the all time NHL penalty minutes record over his career at 3,966.
