Darryl Sittler was born 1950 in Kichener Ontario. He wore #27 playing centre for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Sittler played with Toronto from 1970-71 to 1981-82. 12 seasons and captained from 1975-76 till 1979. In a dispute with the Toronto owner Harold Ballard, Sittler refused to captain the team past 1979, he removed the "C" from his jersey after teammate and friend Lanny McDonald was traded. Sittler took on the roll of captain once again under duress for the 1980-81 season. Then in the 1981-82 season he demanded a trade, it came true in January of 1982 Sittler was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Sittler became the first Leaf to ever reach 100 points in a single season, scoring 41 goals and 59 assists in 1975-76.
Sittler was a leader and a hard skating forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the players respected him and the fans loved his play at centre with winger's Lanny McDonald and Dave Williams. Sittler set an NHL record on February 7 1976 in a game against the Boston Bruin's where he scored 6 goals and 4 assists, a 10 point game. Sittler played in a playoff game in 1976 against the Philadelphia Flyers where he tied an NHL record of 5 goals in one playoff game.
Sittler playing in the second Canada Cup tournament in 1976, Sittler scored the overtime goal to win the Canada Cup, Sittler skated down the left wing with the puck, the goalie came out to cut down the angle of the shot, Sittler faked the slap shot, skating past the goalie Vladimir Dzurilla scoring on the short side to win the game and the Canada Cup.
