Johnny Bower

by dave
(Toronto)

During a game between the Montreal Canadians and Toronto Maple Leafs, in the 1960`s, Jean Beliveau was playing the puck in the Toronto end, when he was tripped up and started sliding head first toward the goalie Johnny Bower and his goal post.

Bower seeing that Beliveau could not stop himself from hitting the post, quickly stuck out his pad to prevent Beliveau from injury.

As the play continued, Beliveau thanked Bower for his act of kindness and shook his hand.

Leafs best ambassador

I have met Johnny many times at signings and sports venues and he is gracious, accommodating and such a great advocate of the sport with his fans, young and old. He is a great gentleman and player. ALWAYS has time for his fans.
