The Chicago Black Hawks had a double threat: Mikita lead the regular season in points and Bobby Hull lead the league in scoring.
In fact, there were five Chicago players that finished in the top ten scoring for the regular season. They were: Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Ken Wharram, Doug Mohns and Phil Esposito.
The Chicago wingers tended to feed Hull as much as possible, knowing that he would eventually get off his big booming slap shot.
But the Leafs forechecking strategy worked well enough to allow Hull to score only 4 goals in the entire series, and Stan Mikita to score only 2 goals.
The pressure of Toronto's forechecking continued to keep Chicago Black Hawks from gaining any momentum. Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull were the main focus of the Leafs. Whenever they were on the ice, they were hounded constantly.
Even 25 year old Phil Esposito was held scoreless for all six games in the semi-finals.
After the series win by Toronto, Bobby Hull was quoted as referring to Terry Sawchuk, "I saw him make those saves, but I still can't believe it".
