1967 Stanley Cup

Finals, Game 5

previous game in the 1967 Stanley Cup playoff finals

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadians enter the game tied two games apiece. The Leafs players were nervous before the game. There was quiet in the dressing room, thinking about the last game when they were soundly beaten by the Habs.

One of the players spoke out and said that the forwards need to pick up their game and score more. That's when Frank Mahovlich, who normally didn't have much to say, stood up and told the room, "Every one of us is capable of scoring a big goal". Thank you, "Big M"!

The Leafs team were now psyched up and charged out of the dressing room for the start of the game.

In game 5, Terry Sawchuk practically stole the game putting on a clinic of "how to play goal in the NHL". During the playoffs game 5, he let in only one goal and held on to stop the Montreal shooters, allowing his team to win the game.

Montreal's confidence in their young goalie, Rogatien Vachon, had faded. He was replaced by Gump Worsley for the 3rd period.
